FAQs
-
What does Sorted By Katie do?
We help people declutter, organise, and create calm, functional homes that truly work for them. From one wardrobe to a full home move, we provide hands-on support, planning, and guidance to bring order, clarity, and calm into your spaces.
-
What areas do you cover?
We are based in London and cover projects within Zones 1–6. We are happy to travel further afield for full-day or larger projects with an agreed travel cost.
-
Do I need to tidy before you come?
No, please don’t! It’s helpful to see how your space really functions (or doesn’t). That way, we can design systems that genuinely suit your day-to-day life.
-
Can I be involved in the process?
Definitely. This is essential! It’s your home and your belongings so you’re always in control. Some clients love being super hands-on, others prefer to delegate. We’ll work in whichever way suits you best but we’ll always need you nearby to be able to answer questions.
-
Do you offer virtual sessions?
At the moment, we focus solely on in-person projects, but I’m happy to discuss whether remote guidance might work for smaller jobs or as support between sessions.
-
Will you make me get rid of all my stuff?
Absolutely not! This isn’t about minimalism (unless that’s your goal). Our role is to help you make confident decisions about what to keep, what to let go of, and how to organise everything in a way that works for you.
-
What if I'm embarassed about my space?
Please don’t be — this is a completely shame-free zone. We’ve seen all kinds of homes and clutter, and there’s no judgement here. We want to help you feel comfortable and excited about the changes to come, not worried about being ashamed of your home.
-
How long does it take to declutter or organise a room or home?
It depends on the size of your space, how much stuff you have, and how involved you want to be. Some rooms take a few hours; full homes can take several days. After your consultation, we’ll give you a realistic estimate.
-
Do I need to buy storage boxes before we start?
No, please don’t rush to buy anything unless you’re absolutely set on something. Generally we suggest that we use what you already have first. If extra storage would help, we can recommend options that fit your budget, style, and space.
-
Do you take things away or help with donations?
We can help you sort items for donation, resale, or recycling, and suggest the best ways to pass things on. We don’t personally remove items at this time, but we can help arrange collections or recommend local services.
-
What happens after the project is finished?
You’ll receive a custom PDF guide — The Sorted by Katie Method — outlining how we’ve organised your space, showing an inventory list - to help if you can’t find something! - and tips for maintaining it. We’re also always happy to answer follow-up questions via email/text/call, especially if you’re struggling to find something!
-
What's included in a wardrobe refresh?
We’ll review your clothes (and shoes and accessories if you wish) together, declutter what you no longer love or wear, and create a wardrobe that’s functional and easy to maintain. We can also help with seasonal swaps and storage solutions.
-
Can you help me sell my stuff?
Yes. We can help you decide what’s worth selling and what might be better to donate. We can organise valuations of higher value items, and guide you or manage pricing, listing, and selling items through various sales platforms like Vinted or eBay.
-
Do you help with moving house?
Yes — I offer full home move management. This includes pre-move decluttering, packing, labelling, liaising with movers, and unpacking and organising your new space so you can settle in easily.
-
Can you help me downsize?
Absolutely. We provide gentle, structured support for downsizing or life transitions, ensuring the process is handled respectfully and sensitively.
-
What kind of projects do you not take on?
We don’t currently offer packing/unpacking for international moves, estate planning, or specialist cleaning services. If your project falls outside our scope, we will do our best to refer you to someone suitable.
-
Can I book for multiple days?
Of course! Large or whole-home projects often work best spread over several days (or weeks). We’ll plan a schedule that suits your pace, timeline, and energy levels.
-
What if we don’t finish in one day?
That’s completely fine. We’ll always give you an honest time estimate upfront and we always aim to finish the project well within that time frame. However, if more time is needed, for instance, sometimes clients decide they want to do more than initially agreed upon, we can either book an extra session or we’ll give you a clear plan to continue on your own.
-
Do you offer half days?
Yes! Many of our clients prefer to book multiple half days to manage their energy better.
-
How much does it cost?
Every project is unique. After your free consultation, we’ll provide a clear, tailored quote based on your space, goals, and the level of support you’d like.
-
How do I pay?
Once we confirm your booking, we’ll send an invoice for a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your date. The remaining 50% is due after the project is completed. Payments are made by bank transfer.
-
What's your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
If you need to cancel, please give at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations within 48 hours of the project start time will be charged the full fee, as we can’t rebook the slot at short notice. Reschedules can be made up to 24 hours in advance with no extra charge — we’ll always do our best to be flexible.
-
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Gift vouchers make a thoughtful present for new parents, movers, or anyone craving more order and calm. Digital gift cards are available — just get in touch to arrange one.
-
Will you take before and after photos?
Only if you’re comfortable. Photos are a great way to see your progress and celebrate your hard work, and we sometimes use them for our portfolio, website or social media. You can specifically request not to have photos taken or shared at any time.
-
Is my information kept private?
Always. Confidentiality is a key part of my work. Please see our privacy policy at the bottom of our homepage for more information.
-
What if I get emotional or tired during the process?
This is very normal. Decluttering can bring up memories and feelings and it takes a lot of decision making - all of this can make you feel fatigued and sometimes overwhelmed. We will work with you at a pace which works for you and if you need to take a break, that’s completely fine.
-
What's the biggest benefit of working with you?
Clients often say they not only gain decluttered, organised and refreshed spaces but also a sense of calm, focus, and freedom. A tidy home really does lead to a tidier mind.
